During their normal operation, furnaces create water from moisture in the air. Generally, the furnace will have hoses and/or drains to remove the water from it. But it’s possible for water to leak out of the furnace if something is wrong, so read on to learn about common causes for such leaks at your home in Satsuma, AL.
Clogs in the Condensate Lines
The condensate lines run from the furnace to someplace where the water can go. It could be a sink or drain inside the house, or the lines could run outside.
The moisture that condenses usually contains particulates, which can collect inside the condensate lines to the point where the flow of water stops and backs up. When the water backs up that way, it will flow out onto the floor.
Malfunctioning Condensate Pump
Some furnaces have actual pumps to move the condensation away from them. If your furnace has such a pump, and something goes wrong with it, then it could leak water out onto the floor, necessitating heating repairs.
Dirty Air Filter
Having a dirty air filter makes your furnace work harder to reach the temperature you set. In this case, water vapor occasionally collects in and around the filter. When the water saturates the filter, it seeps onto the floor.
Crack in the Drain Pain
Most furnaces have a drain pan that collects excess condensation and then lead it outside. If the pan has a crack, the water will leak out onto the floor.
